At operating temperature the implement hydraulic oil tank is hot and under pressure. Hot oil can cause burns.To prevent possible injury, release the pressure in the implement hydraulic system before hydraulic lines or components are disconnected or removed.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Park the machine on a hard, level surface. Lower the scraper bowl to the ground and engage the parking brake. Chock the wheels in order to prevent the machine from moving.
Put identification marks on all lines, hoses, wires, and tubes for installation purposes. Plug all lines, hoses and tubes. This helps prevent fluid loss and contamination of the oil system.

Install Tooling (A) to the draft frame, as shown.

Remove eight bolts (1) and two yokes (2) from steering links (3) and (4) . Use a hammer and a brass rod to remove pin (5) from steering links (3) and (4) . Separate the steering links. Repeat the procedure for the other side.

Disconnect two tubes (6) , six hoses (7) and six hoses (8) . Remove bolt (9) and the clips from bracket (10) .

Place cribbing (11) under the hitch, as shown. This prevents the hitch from moving when the hitch pins are removed.

Remove six bolts (12) , lock (13) and two yokes (14) from lower hitch pin (15) . Repeat the procedure for the upper hitch pin.

Install Tooling (B) , Tooling (C) and a lift truck to the tractor, as shown.

Use cribbing and a suitable hydraulic jack to remove hitch pin (16) from the machine.

Use a pry bar to remove hitch pin (15) from the machine. Separate the tractor and the scraper.
